Expansion of Taunton School

Taunton School

Acting on behalf of Taunton School Educational Charity, full planning permission and listed building consent have been granted for a significant new development at the school’s Staplegrove Road campus. The approved plans include new academic teaching and boarding blocks, a pedestrian footbridge, enhanced landscaping, and a multi-use games area featuring two hockey pitches at the school’s sports ground.

This development forms part of Project Ganymede, Taunton School’s long-term strategic vision to create a centralised and fully accessible educational campus. By consolidating facilities on the c.36-hectare site, the school aims to enhance safeguarding, improve accessibility, and provide a secure, cohesive learning environment.

The planning process involved navigating a number of complex constraints, with comprehensive technical assessments addressing issues such as flood risk, sustainable drainage, nutrient neutrality, ecology, structural integrity, highways, and landscaping. Constructive collaboration with Somerset Council, Sport England, and Natural England was key to securing consent.

The scheme was designed by Wootton Donoghue Architects, with Ward Williams Associates providing project management services to oversee the phased delivery of the development.
